"Make You Feel My Love" was initially released on September 30th, 1997. The song's initial performer and writer was the famous Bob Dylan, as part of his album titled "Time Out Of Mind".
The song had previously been released by Billy Joel as "To Make You Feel My Love", two months before Dylan. It was part of his 1997 album "Greatest Hits Volume III" and it peaked at number 50 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Due to the song's increasing popularity, many artists have successfully covered it throughout the years. A notable cover came from the British singer, Adele, on October 27th, 2008. The single is a mixture of the genres pop and soul and it was produced by Jim Abbiss. It holds the original lyrics, written by Bob Dylan, and it has a duration of 3:32 minutes.
The cover was part of Adele's debut album, "19", which was launched in 2009. It represented the fifth and last single from "21". At the time, the song peaked at number 26 on the UK Singles Chart. However, after being sang on the talent show, "The X Factor", "Make You Feel My Love" entered the chart again, this time at number 24.
After the second performance at the same show, the single climbed up to number four on the charts, and stayed in top ten for another three non-consecutive weeks. This also came as a result of the song's frequent use in the Comic Relief 2010 telethon.
After being featured in another talent show, "Britain's Got Talent”, in 2011, "Make You Feel My Love" once again entered the UK Singles Chart, where it peaked number 34. The song has spent, by this day, 45 weeks on the UK charts, which turned it into the 16th longest runner in history.
Adele's cover also appeared in the film "When In Rome" as well as on the charity album “Songs For The Philippines”. Her song was ranked at number one among the artist’s all time songs, by Heart Radio, in early 2013.
“Make You Feel My Love” was featured in numerous other projects, such as: “Glee”, “One Tree Hill”, “Against The Wall”, “Waterloo Road”, ‘Ghost Whisperer”, “Bones”, ‘The Bold And The Beautiful”, “Parenthood”, “EastEnders”, “General Hospital” and many others.
Other important artists who covered the song include Garth Brooks, Bryan Ferry, Kelly Clarkson and dozens many more.
“Make You Feel My Love” grew more and more popular throughout the years, and instead of fading away from the charts, it stayed there for decades.
