“Radioactive” is one of Imagine Dragon’s best songs and also one of the most important singles in recent rock history. The song has the potential of surviving the decades and generations and stand as a very special rock composition in critics’ reviews and public’s choices.
The single is a mixture of the genres alternative rock and electronic rock and it’s one of the darkest tracks on the album. While composing it, the artists used powerful vocals and added pop and dubstep influences. The song is played in B Minor and the message is a negativist and apocalyptical one.
“Radioactive” was released on October 29th, 2012 and it’s a song from American rock band Imagine Dragons. It was written by Josh Mosser, Dan Reynolds, Dan Platzman, Ben McKee and Wayne Sermon. It is part of their debut album, “Night Visions” and it was recorded for their EP “Continued Silence”.
“Radioactive” received positive feedback from the music critics, having been rated at 4.5 out of 5 and being described as “hypnotizing”, “haunting”, “hook-y”, “the darkest moment of the album” and “the greatest calling card of Imagine Dragons”. Important magazines like Billboard and Rolling Stones named it “the rock hit of the Summer” and “the biggest rock hit of the year”.
The single was also a commercial success having reached number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topping the US Hot Rock Songs, US Rock Airplay and US Alternative Songs charts. It reached number four in the US Adult Contemporary chart. It became an international success after peaking top ten in many countries, such as Austria, Canada, Australia, Norway, Germany, Sweden, Luxembourg, Switzerland and various others.
The band performed “Radioactive” at live at the shows “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”, “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno”, “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon” and “Saturday Night Live”.
The single was featured in the movie “The Host” and also in many promotional clips for “Assassin’s Creed III”, “Chicago Fire: Run For Your Life” and on various other occasions.
The music video for the song was released on December 10th, 2012 and it features Alexandra Dadario, Lou Diamond Phillips and some puppeteers.
The artists who worked at the single’s creation consist in Daniel Platzman, responsible for drums and viola, Wayne Sermon for guitar, Dan Reynolds for the vocals and Ben McKee for the bass. Additional personnel include Joe LaPorta, Josh Mosser, J Brows, Manny Marroquin and Alexander Grant, who co-wrote and produced the song.
