"I Look To You" was written by Robert Kelly under Arista label. It was featured on the artist's seventh album, "I Look To You". It was also the first single to be released from the album, in the United States. A few listening parties were organized to preview the tracks.
The video for the song was directed by Melina Matsoukas and it was released on September 10th, 2009. It features Whitney Houston in a white dress, on a grey background. It was released on Entertainment Tonight and via the singer's official website.
The song was recorded throughout the year 2009 and it runs a duration of 4:26 minutes. It was released as a CD single and also for digital download. The song was produced Emanuel Kiriakou, Tricky Stewart and Harvey Mason, Jr. Musically, it is a mixture of the genres soul, pop and R&B.

The song was also an international success and it reached the charts worldwide. The list includes Germany, Sweden, Belgium, France, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Canada, Austria, Switzerland and many other nations. The single sold more than 450 000 copies throughout the world.
Another version of the song was released on September 25th, 2012 and it's a duet with the single's writer, R Kelly. The release was posthumous and was part of the album "I Will Always Love You: The Best of Whitney Houston".
"I Look At You" was covered by many artists such as Amber Riley, in the television series, "Glee", by R Kelly, at Whitney Houston's funeral, by Joe McElderry and by Selah, in 2011.
The song is one of the artist's last musical works and a reminder of her greatness.
